Final design.

We are going to select four UAV models for prototyping:

  • Two small models to be tested in the tunnel and be flown (1.5 m wingspan).
  • Two big models to start the construction of a final prototype (3 m wingspan)

The small models.

The idea is to build the planes designed in the previous academic year, on a smaller scale, and adapt the Bixler 3 propulsion, control surfaces actuators (servomotors), and control systems to our own designs.

The big models.

The idea is to build the planes designed in the previous academic year, on a full scale, and start the testing of the designed electric system (cells, charger, and batteries), the propulsion system calculated to do a perpetual flight, the design of the control surface and their actuators.

Task. The tasks done in the previous academic year are inherited.

  • Two groups were responsible for the control surface and actuators (CSA groups)
  • Two groups were in charge of the control systems (CTRL groups)
  • Two groups are going to be selected for the propulsion system (PROP groups)
  • Two groups were in charge of the electrical system i.e. cells, charger, and batteries (ELEC group)

Instruments. We need to buy and collect all the needed instrumentation to check the electrical system and the main motor thrust.

Bill of materials. We need to define the bill of material needed to start its acquisition.

Tools. We need to define the manufacturing process to check the availability of the required tools.

Task schedules. We need to define the task sequence and work schedule.

Student coordinators. At least two students working on their Capstone Project will assist all of us as project coordinators.

Possibility to include M21 and M22 during the second semester in the manufacturing process. It would be great if these two groups could collaborate in the plane building. They could help with the electrical and electronics subsystems.
